Bad attitudes: How to do away with bad habits

Every now and then, we all have bad days, but there’s a huge line of difference between having a temporary bad time and having an entirely bad attitude. On a bad day, things are completely out of your control. Maybe you are to appear for an interview but you woke up late and the bus broke down on the way and then the unthinkable happened. It could also be that you found a hole in your favorite dress and then your boss at work made a laughing stock of you. Maybe you got stood up for a date or you had an heated argument with a friend and then all the way back home, you couldn’t help but hate yourself. All I’m trying to say is, bad days do happen, and it’s completely okay to let out feelings.

But a bad attitude? That one is totally your doing and completely in your control. Maybe you find everything stressful and you are irritated by people at your workplace, or maybe your partner looks stupid to you? All these are things you can change by just changing your own outlook on. Your bad attitude only escalates the terrible sides of certain situations and experiences, and that bad feeling can be easily fixed into a good one. Below are 4 ways to do away with bad attitudes because the way a situation plays out is completely in your control.

There are 4 steps you can take to do away with habits that you don’t want anymore. Here are the list as follows

1. Identify the habit.
You need to agree with yourself of this problem of yours.

2. State what needs to change in your behavior/attitude

3. Ask for help from others. You may not be able to defeat it

4. Consciously embrace a new behaviour.

Quick note:
It is true that practicing a new behavior, might feel like you’re putting up an act. I mean, showing up in a new way, or acting differently, feels like pretence, sometimes to you and then to people who already know you. However, just like having to change your favourite dress, it’ll never feel good at first, but remember you’ll eventually come to terms with it. After all , not staying naked is your number one priority.

Also, If we want to learn, we need to tolerate the strange feeling of inauthenticity long enough to integrate the new way of being into your existence. Long enough for the new way to begin to feel natural.

Like the famous saying goes, “a bad attitude is like a flat tire, you can’t go anywhere without changing it.”
